4 Stars: "Although one could probably potentially pass this book off as fan fiction for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, or a rip-off of preexisting characters and themes, this book generally surpasses these expectations. The Gothic elements, rivalry between Victor and Konrad, and quest to save Konrad through alchemy is enchanting. It is interesting to look at the clash between modern medicine and superstitions and alchemy, seeing how alchemy has some roots in science. It is also intriguing to see how Victor's determination and sometimes dangerous passion to succeed could foreshadow his creation of the Frankenstein monster. "- B.B, grade 12
