"This is an interesting book. I was really wrapped up in the atmosphere and the mystery of the magic. It took a little while to connect to because it wasn't clear at first that there are 3 POVs along side other involved characters. It gets a little murky in the middle, but the combination of LGBTQ+ perspectives with magic is refreshing. There are also honest and non-shy portrayals of relationships (both male/female and female/female) that older teens may appreciate. The way things are written will definitely lure you in and keep you there. At it's heart, this is a story of magic and spells, family and love, and what we would lose to keep what we don't want lost."

"I read this on audio and it was good. I enjoyed the blend of gothic literature (like Dracula and Frankenstein) with Sherlock Holmes characters/feels. I disliked the flirty relationship between Audrey and Thomas, though someone else may enjoy that. Audrey is independent, working in secret with her uncle to study forensic science in a time before women were allowed to do so. When a spree of killings occurs, the Jack the Ripper rumors spread. If you're looking for a gothic mystery, you've found it."

But it backfires and her entire family disappears, leaving only Nova- a new acquaintance she can't trust. She will have to work with him if she wants her family back from their Alice in Wonderland-like banishment. Infused with Spanish flare, this book is very charming and a quick read."
